Taiyo hungry for more after sensational debut ESBK Stock600 win in Portugal

Taiyo Aksu is an ESBK Stock600 race winner!

The talented Australian teenager finally got the monkey off his back after a mentally challenging couple of rounds that saw technical issues and a couple of crashes rob him of his elusive first win.

Remaining focused and trusting both the process and the people around him the #89 romped to his maiden international win in the second race of the weekend at Estoril in Portugal this past weekend.

One of the fastest riders on track throughout the event, Taiyo qualified second and was running comfortably out front in Saturday’s opening race before a technical issue forced his retirement.

Leaving nothing to chance, his ARCO University Yamaha team worked tirelessly to replace several components to give Taiyo the best possible chance of success. Taiyo rewarded them superbly. Fighting back from tenth position to win his first race in the ultra-competitive Spanish series – and keeping the possibility of a top three overall position very much on the cards with two races remaining at the Jerez circuit in November.

Taiyo Aksu:

“We had pace all weekend and so I am really happy with how we finished the weekend. It was unfortunate to retire from the race with a mechanical failure on Saturday after leading from the start. I am not going to lie it hurt a lot but that’s part of racing and it gave me more motivation for Sunday. I almost got taken out on the first lap of the second race on Sunday when a rider crashed in front of me and I had to take avoiding action. I lost so many places. With a few laps to go I was able to take the lead and held on to take my first win in the Spanish championship. It means so much to me and to be able to do it on my father’s birthday day is even more special. I want to thank the whole team for their work, everyone that supports me, my manager, my mum and dad and little brother, I would not be here without you all. I will take a couple of days to enjoy the moment, but I am already thinking about the final two races in Jerez where I will be giving my all to end the year on a high!”
