Taiyo Aksu Bags A Top Six Finish After Navarra Race One DNF
Taiyo Aksu remains in contention for the 2025 ESBK Superstock 600cc Championship after a hard fought sixth place finish in the latest round of the series held this past weekend at the Navarra circuit in northern Spain.
A front runner from the opening round, Taiyo qualified fourth for the opening race. Unfortunately, a technical issue on the sighting lap prevented him from completing the race, the #89 sadly having to retire on the opening lap.
His Arco University Yamaha squad worked hard to fix the issue meaning Taiyo was back in the fight on Sunday afternoon. A strong start saw him in podium contention in the early laps before on track contact with another rider resulted in him being unable to maintain the pace he had shown throughout the event. He crossed the line sixth, adding ten valuable points to his championship tally.
Taiyo and the team will now reset during the summer break ready to attack in the final few rounds – their goal and focus still on the championship win!
Taiyo Aksu:
“Qualifying went well and I was content with where we were in terms of our pace. We had a few gremlins during the session which the team thought they had resolved but unfortunately the issue remained, and I had to retire from race one. The second race was tough. I touched with another rider which pulled my shoulder and meant I was not able to ride the final two thirds as I know I could have. That said I am happy to have finished the race after the last couple of DNFs, so it was nice to see the chequered flag. It wasn’t the easiest weekend. I was under the weather leading up to event and then we had a few things that just never went our way. We know we have the pace to fight for the podium, and the title is still within reach, so I am looking forward to coming back strong in the final races and ending the year in style. Thank you to my team and everyone who is supporting me. See you all after the summer break.”
